What is Progesterone Cream?

Natural progesterone cream is naturally extracted from plant oils, such as wild yams, which contain plant sterols (a class of plant hormones). The most common sterol found in wild yams is diosgenin—a molecular structure that is very similar to progesterone. By removing a few side chains of the diosgenin molecule, scientists have successfully converted the plant compound diosgenin into natural and safe progesterone cream that is 100% bioavailable, moisturising, and effective.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Since every woman is different, some will need more cream than others to achieve hormonal balance. For menstruating women, the use of the cream is based on the menstrual cycle, applying the progesterone cream from ovulation until 2 days before the scheduled start of menstruation. Counting the first day of menstruation as day 1 of the cycle, start using the cream at the time of ovulation or day 14 (if your cycle is 28 days). If your cycle is longer, you would begin a few days later.

Suggested dose (adjust as needed): From day 14 (or ovulation) until the 17th day, use 1/4 teaspoon of cream per day. From the 18th to the 22nd day, 1/2 teaspoon per day. From day 23 until two days before the scheduled start of menstruation, 1 teaspoon per day. You can increase these quantities the first two months (depending on the severity of PMS) and gradually decrease thereafter for minimum maintenance. In the case of uterine cramps during menstruation, apply cream just above the pubis. For hormonal headaches, apply the cream on the sides of the neck, just behind the ear lobes.

Peri-Menopause

Early menopause, menstruation still present: Use progesterone cream on the 8th day of the cycle. Use at least 1/2 teaspoon per day for the first two months, and then reduce to 1/4 teaspoon day. If your periods are sporadic, progesterone may temporarily restore your cycle to normal. If menstruation begins before the scheduled time, stop the cream and count it as day 1 of a new cycle. If your periods become unpredictable, you can then begin to follow the instructions for menopause.

Post-menopause and hysterectomy

Apply progesterone cream three weeks a month. (Most women choose to start the 8th

of the cycle and apply the cream until the end of the cycle.) It is suggested that this method gives ample time for progesterone receptors to rest.

At the beginning (the first two months), use at least 1/2 teaspoon per day (you can go up

to 3/4 teaspoon daily). After the first two months, you can reduce to 1/4 teaspoon per day

or even 1/8 teaspoon. Some women who suffer from hot flashes put a little cream on the inside of the wrist when the heat begins.

In the case of osteoporosis, it is suggested to have a bone density test (DPA or DEXA)

before using progesterone cream.

Will natural yam extract increase progesterone levels?

No. Ingestion of wild yam extracts will not increase your progesterone levels. This is because the body is not capable of converting wild yam extract into progesterone and other hormones. This process can only be done in the laboratory by health researchers who know how to perform the conversion process.

How Progesterone Can Help You

If you are experiencing one or more progesterone deficiency symptoms, you may not be producing enough progesterone and are in need of a progesterone cream. Before beginning application, it’s important to consult your physician. Progesterone is a non-addicting hormone supplement that can help reduce symptoms associated with menopause and premenstrual discomfort, enhance libido and functions, increase energy levels, balance mood, and alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression.
